Can Infrared Sauna Therapy Help Prevent Breast Cancer?

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH, BUT DID YOU KNOW…

The focus of BCAM is early detection and treatment which undisputedly saves lives. However, I must agree with the Cancer Prevention Coalition and the Breast Cancer Fund that finding ways to minimize the rate of occurrence is equally as important - and becoming more important every day.

Fewer women are dying but why are so many women getting the disease in the first place. Frighteningly, estimates are that 1 in 8 women will fall victim to breast cancer at some point in their life. "All women are at risk for breast cancer, regardless of hereditary factors. In fact, no more than 10% of people with breast cancer have a genetic predisposition to the disease."

Environmental factors are not generally cited as risk factors (with the exception of diet, pharmaceuticals & radiation). There is increasing evidence that exposure to hormone-mimicking compounds and dangerous chemicals, some of which are found in personal care products, contribute to the development of breast cancer. Much more focus and research via independent studies is required to determine whether many of these products being sold to us to make us "feel and look good" are actually making us sick.

As I have learned these past years, the further we study these issues - the scarier the facts become.

More info: • 216 mammary carcinogens have been identified and cause cancer by damaging mammary cell DNA or cellular processes. Some of these are ingredients in personal care products. • There are no regulations in the US requiring full disclosure of ingredients on many personal care products. • The average women uses a dozen personal care products containing over 168 chemical ingredients daily. • Many of these chemicals accumulate in body fat and remain in breast tissue for decades.

Read those ingredient lists and refuse to purchase from companies who do not practice full disclosure. Just a few of the ingredients to avoid are listed below, use our "Hit List", and the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Database for many additional ingredients and data.

I highly encourage you to visit the Breast Cancer Fund's official web site for much more vital information and deep insight into the problems we face. Let's fight to move beyond awareness and into prevention and work to eliminate the environmental causes of breast cancer.

Sincerely,

Donna Harris CEO / NaturOli Beautiful

Some of the Chemicals of Concern: They can alter our Hormone System (from reports of the Environmental Working Group) • Phthalates: Common as an ingredient in "fragrance" mixtures added to body care products. Companies are not required to reveal ingredients in "fragrance mixtures." • Triclosan: An artificial antimicrobial chemical used in a variety of everyday products. • Musks: Nitro- and polycyclic musks are artificial chemicals also used in "fragrances". • Parabens: A major group of artificial preservatives commonly found in body care products. FDA limits levels allowed in foods/beverages but not in body care.

Several years ago, I treated a post-mastectomy patient that had chronic pain and limited movement in her arm and shoulder. The healing process from her surgery left her with massive chest wall adhesions (scar tissue) that started at her scar and radiated through her chest and shoulder. After several myofascial release sessions (while very gentle, it was very painful to break up the adhesions), we were able to significantly reduce the pain and she had full range of movement.

The reason I am telling you this is that there is a 1 in 8 chance that this could happen to you, your spouse, your partner, your daughter, your friend.

My anatomy and physiology education taught me that the breast, along with the brain, ovaries, testicles, and liver, are highly susceptible to oxidation and DNA mutation from toxins stored in the tissues. The breast is a fatty gland that is designed as a storage facility and as you read above, there are 216 mammary carcinogens that have been identified to cause cancer by damaging mammary DNA or cellular processes. Many of these chemicals are oil-based, are easily accumulated in breast tissue and can be stored in the tissue for decades. Also, fat stores are universally recognized as depositories of toxins that are not easily metabolized as the lipids surround poisons/toxins to prevent them from contaminating the rest of the body.

It has been well-documented that infrared sauna detoxification is highly effective in helping the body cleanse itself of water-soluble and oil-based chemicals stored in the body. Knowing that infrared waves can penetrate tissue up to three inches, depending upon the peak micron wavelength of the heater, and with the advantage of the breast being outside of the body, it is likely that the infrared waves will penetrate deep into the breast tissue and stimulate the cells, through resonant absorption, to release the toxins stored in the tissues.

My therapy training including lymphatic massage, including breast lymphatic massage which I occasionally performed on clients after breast enhancement surgery to reduce pain and swelling. Breast massage is easy to learn and is just as important for every woman to perform as self-examination

The infrared sauna is a perfect place for a woman to perform lymphatic self-massage of her breasts to further stimulate toxin release from the cells into the lymphatic system. While the infrared waves are penetrating the breast tissue to stimulate toxin release, the gentle movements of the lymphatic massage help to push fluid into the lymphatic channels and nodes where they can be removed from the body through sweat and other elimination processes.

There are many videos, books and courses on how to perform breast self-massage. Two video links that I recommend are Breast Health Project and Wonder How To, which has many medical training videos. A great book to purchase that is used as a reference in many courses is Breast Massage by Debra Curties – you can order from Curties-Overzet Publications.
